Dynamic Compressors

Dynamic compressors develop a rise in pressure by increasing the kinetic energy of the gas flow on a continuous basis. The types within this category include:
• Centrifugal (radial)
• Axial

Another means of compressing gases on a continuous-flow basis is the ejector. This device has no moving parts, but requires a motive fluid which mixes with the gas being compressed. Because of its rather low efficiency and limited scope of application, the ejector is not covered in this manual. Typical applications include: vacuum service on refinery vacuum distillation columns, and air ejection from the steam condensers.

A centrifugal (dynamic) compressor is illustrated in Figure 100-2.
