Pressure Relief Disposal Method – Flaring
After a relief stream has undergone phase separation and, possibly, capture of valuable or hazardous components in an absorption or recovery system, the most commonly used alternative to discharge to the atmosphere is combustion in some sort of flare. While a flare gas recovery system may be appropriate for collecting and reusing portions of routine venting and small periodic relief device discharges, for disposal of large flows of flammable gases and vapors in emergency situations, there is little alternative to a flare system.
